dot Colonia di gruccioni cacciati dal recupero della cava

Da oltre venti anni, lungo la cosiddetta “Strada dei Tufi”, nel Comune di S. Costanzo, nidifica una ricca colonia di Gruccioni, uccelli variopinti assai rari nelle Marche.

In particolare, il grosso della colonia, nidificava, costruendo profondi fori, in una vecchia cava di arenaria.
Nei primi anni, la presenza di questi uccelli, era vista con stupore dalle molte persone che frequentavano la zona per tranquille passeggiate; con il passare del tempo, però, la presenza di questi splendidi uccelli, era diventata familiare e motivo di vanto per gli abitanti della zona.

Quella colonia, negli anni, era stata oggetto di studio e di monitoraggio quasi continuo, essendo essa stessa, con ogni probabilità, la colonia storica più numerosa della Regione.
Attualmente era oggetto di studio per una tesi di laurea.

Improvvisamente, senza considerare minimamente il valore naturalistico della comunità di gruccioni, è stato deciso il “recupero”della cava.
Interrando e demolendo le pareti di arenaria, la colonia è stata costretta a spostarsi altrove alla ricerca delle poche aree adatte alle sue esigenze biologiche.
Se il recupero di vecchie cave può essere auspicabile in alcune circostanze, non lo è in questa situazione.
Questo non vale solo nel caso in questione, ma anche quando si vanno a recuperare vecchi laghetti di escavazione di ghiaia.
Stupisce che nel progetto di recupero non sia stato preso in considerazione la presenza ormai pluridecennale di questa colonia.
Costruire una parete artificiale, come pare essere previsto dal piano di recupero, per consentire il permanere della colonia, appare del tutto inutile, perché su una sabbia non consolidata, la specie in questione difficilmente riuscirà a scavare fori adeguati per nidificare.

Questa varietà di uccelli necessita, infatti, di pareti di arenaria con una giusta esposizione, ben consolidati e terreni limitrofi con risorse trofiche adeguate.

Probabilmente le autorizzazioni per chiudere la cava e recuperare qualche decina di metri di terreno agricolo ci saranno tutte, ma ciò non esonera gli amministratori locali, a conoscenza dell’importanza dell’area per questa specie, dalla responsabilità di essersi disinteressati di questa emergenza faunistica.

Non tutti gradiscono la presenza di gruccioni, vedi gli apicoltori, i quali si vedono spopolare le loro colonie dall' enorme voracità di quisti uccelli, lamentando uno spopolamento dei propri alveari nei periodi più cruciali della stagione apistica.<br />
Peggio ancora accade quando a rimanere preda del gruccione rimane una giovane regina durante uno dei suoi voli di fecondazione.<br />
